Hatherleigh's weekly market, run on Tuesdays, has sales of sheep, cattle, and poultry, as well as a host of other stalls from local producers and regular auctions.

It is the smallest town in Devon, yet boast three popular pubs; The Bridge Inn, The Tally Ho and The George. Hatherleigh also contains hairdressers, craft shops, a beauty salon, a news agency, a convenience shop, Estate Agents, Deli, and a post office.
