Property Description

Additional Information

One only needs to look at the front of the home to know the property has a long and quite likely, grand history. There is a sense of grandeur within the home too and with good reason. We are told the home was once a Hotel (along with the neighbouring properties) and was split at some point later to form the residences. There is evidence of this in various formats within. There is a small flying freehold over left side of the kitchen and the faint outlines of various former doorways. The high ceilings and even the way the cupboards are arranged, reminds one of the archetypal layout of this period of guest house. But it does not feel formal. It feels welcoming and, well homely. After all, it has been home to a large family with 5 children since the ‘90s!

There are 2 large bedrooms and a bathroom on the first floor, another with large walk-in cupboard (ensuite maybe?) on the second floor and further stairs lead to a useful attic room. On the Ground floor, a welcoming hall and 2 reception rooms, which are both large. The kitchen runs along the back with island and leads to the garden. The garden is enclosed with stone walls and high fencing and feels mature. It is not large, but it has everything. A lawn to sit and sun in, plenty of colour, a shed to the back and large Bay tree for some shade. It is a cottage garden ironically as the home is anything but. Besides, who needs acres when you can walk to the 365 acres common in 2 minutes. Town is less than that, and that is what makes this such a sought after proposition. Parking can be found in the marked bays in the street which is unrestricted from 5pm. An alternative is the car park at the end of the street where a permit costing approximately £1 per day can be purchased. This will be valid in most Long stay carparks in Torridge too – so very handy if you are working in Torridge too!

The home is grade 2 listed and has been superbly maintained and looked after. We know it will home a large family, but it is also worth considering as an occasional home or a boutique guest house - returning it to its beginnings. However you feel the home will suit, what we can be sure of is that it can offer longevity and a good deal of happiness.
