St. Clare meant 'pure water' to the Anglo-Saxons and the property takes its name from this well which even now attracts the occasional visitor from all over the world.


From Bideford Quay proceed in the direction of Northam. Upon reaching the Heywood Road roundabout, turn left in the direction of Bude. Follow the A39 for approximately 9 miles passing through the hamlets of Fairy Cross, Horns Cross and Bucks Cross. Approximately 1 mile after passing the Milky Way Adventure Park on your left hand side, proceed straight over the roundabout at Higher Clovelly. Ignoring the first sign for Hartland, continue on the A39 for approximately 2 further miles. Take the right hand turning signposted Hartland B3248 and continue for approximately 1 mile before turning left at the thatched cottage (which has a small thatched animal on the roof) signposted Philham. Follow the road until your reach a staggered crossroads then take the left hand turning signposted Philham. Follow this road for approximately 200 yards to where St.Clares cottage can be seen on your left hand side clearly identified by a nameplate and For Sale board.
