I am completely undecided as to whether I love this home more because of its chocolate box looks; the fact it has been restored and enhanced to meet 21st century expectations whilst retaining all of its character; or its situation amongst this friendly community within the rolling hills of North Devon.

All the sights, smells and sounds of the country titivate your senses! The clucking of pheasants, squarks of buzzards overhead and morning dawn chorus of gardens birds fill the air. Maybe I romanticise a little but even the most hardy of people will find themselves with a beaming smile from ear to ear, as a delightful sense of calm and relaxation overwhelms you as you stand there trying to take it all in.

Whatever your preference – walking, (with or without your four-legged best friend), or horse riding – there are numerous bridle paths and walkways to choose from, taking you through rolling fields, pine forests and unspoiled woodland.

Only eight miles away you can find yourself on the Tarka trail, a footpath/cycle way mainly built on the bed of a disused railway where all the gradients are gentle. It winds its way through some stunning countryside along the course of the River Torridge past Beam Weir, where Henry Williamson’s Tarka the Otter was born and from which the trail gains its name.

Both Dartmoor and Exmoor national parks are within an hour’s drive and if the sea is your true love, the closest coastline is only a 20 mile drive and perfect for swimmers, surfers, body boarders or just taking a soul-searching barefoot walk in the sand.

Directions

From Torrington proceed in a southerly direction on the A386 signposted Hatherleigh/Okehampton and at the bottom of the hill turn left onto the A3124 sign posted Winkleigh/Exeter. Continue for approximately 10 miles towards Dolton Beacon. Take the turning left just before HJ Ward then after a short distance left again onto the B3217. After approximately three hundred yards turn right, sign posted Riddlecombe. Follow the road for approximately two miles to the next junction where you turn right towards the village. Primrose Cottage is located on the next junction almost immediately in front of you.
