Wadebridge was connected to the railway system between 1834 and 1960; the line now forms one of the major attractions of the area and arguably the most successful recreational multi use trail in the UK, the Camel Trail, an 18 mile trail from Padstow to Bodmin which follows the disused railway and can be used by walkers, cyclists and horse riders. The Camel estuary offers a wide range of water sports, including sailing, water skiing, windsurfing, surfing and kite surfing.
The Royal Cornwall Show, a large annual three-day agricultural show held at the nearby Royal Cornwall Showground every June attracts huge numbers of people throughout the country.
A bypass was introduced in 1991 to eradicate the high volumes of traffic through the town centre. Now, the main shopping street has been pedestrianised and hosts a wide variety of independent shops, wine merchants, delis and small boutiques. There is a secondary school and supermarkets.

"Succeeded where others failed! "I can wholeheartedly recommend Bond Oxborough Phllips. They are a very professional yet friendly agency and we were pleased with both the marketing for our property and the fact that they communicated regularly with us every step of the way.""
